Privacy Policy

Last updated: 7 July 2026

Alt Tune (“we”, “us”, “our”) operates the website alttune.com and provides ECU tuning files, tuning tools and related services to customers and workshops worldwide. We are based in New Zealand and handle personal information in accordance with the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020 and, where it applies to customers in the European Union or United Kingdom, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have.

1. Information we collect

Information you give us

  • Account and dealer details — name, business name, email address, phone number, billing and shipping address, and login credentials when you create an account, register as a dealer, or place an order.
  • Order and payment information — details of the products and services you purchase. Card payments are processed by our payment providers; we do not store full card numbers on our servers.
  • ECU files and vehicle information — when you use our file service, we receive the ECU read you upload along with the vehicle details and tuning requirements you provide (make, model, ECU type, requested modifications). These are technical files relating to a vehicle rather than to a person, but they are stored against your account.
  • Communications — messages you send us through our contact and enquiry forms, by email, or through our support channels, and job applications submitted through our careers page.

Information collected automatically

  • Usage data — IP address, browser type, device information, pages visited and referring URLs, collected through standard server logs and analytics.
  • Cookies and similar technologies — used to keep you logged in, remember your cart, measure how the site is used, and improve performance. See the Cookies section below.

2. How we use your information

  • To provide our products and services — processing orders, delivering tuning files, managing your account and dealer relationship, and providing technical support.
  • To communicate with you about your orders, files, enquiries and account.
  • To operate, secure and improve our website and services, including fraud prevention, abuse detection and diagnostics.
  • To meet our legal and accounting obligations.
  • With your consent, to send you updates and marketing about our products and services. You can opt out at any time using the unsubscribe link in any marketing email.

Where the GDPR applies, we rely on the following legal bases: performance of a contract (orders, accounts, file service), legitimate interests (site security, service improvement, business communications), legal obligation (tax and accounting records) and consent (marketing).

3. Who we share information with

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with service providers who help us run our business, and only to the extent needed:

  • Payment processors, to take payment for orders.
  • Hosting, content delivery and security providers that operate our website infrastructure.
  • Analytics providers (such as Google Analytics) that help us understand how the site is used.
  • Customer relationship and email tools we use to manage enquiries and communications.
  • Couriers and shipping providers, where physical products need to be delivered.
  • Professional advisers and authorities, where required by law.

4. International transfers

We are based in New Zealand and serve customers worldwide. Some of our service providers store or process data in other countries. Where that happens, we take reasonable steps to ensure your information receives a comparable level of protection to that required under New Zealand law.

5. How long we keep information

We keep personal information only as long as we need it for the purposes described above: account information for as long as your account is active, order and invoicing records for the period required by tax law (generally seven years in New Zealand), and enquiry correspondence for as long as needed to handle the matter. ECU files are retained so we can provide ongoing support and revisions for work we have carried out; you can ask us to delete files associated with your account.

6. Security

We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your information, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), access controls and reputable hosting infrastructure. No online service can be guaranteed 100% secure, but we work to protect the information we hold and to respond promptly to any incident.

7. Your rights

You may ask us at any time to:

  • access the personal information we hold about you;
  • correct information that is wrong or out of date;
  • delete your account or personal information, subject to records we must keep by law;
  • stop sending you marketing communications.

To make a request, contact us through our contact page. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the New Zealand Privacy Commissioner (privacy.org.nz) or, in the EU/UK, to your local data protection authority.

8. Cookies

We use:

  • Essential cookies — required for the site to work (login sessions, shopping cart, security). These cannot be switched off.
  • Analytics cookies — help us understand how visitors use the site so we can improve it.

You can control or delete cookies through your browser settings. Blocking essential cookies may prevent parts of the site (such as the shop and your account) from working.

9. Children

Our website and services are intended for business customers and adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The “last updated” date at the top shows when it was last revised. Significant changes will be highlighted on this page.
