The Challenge
The 2014 BMW X5 is a luxury SUV that perfectly combines style, comfort, and performance. As one of BMW’s most popular and versatile models, the X5 already boasts impressive power and driving dynamics. However, for those who crave an extra boost of exhilaration and capability, power tuning provides an exciting opportunity.
In this post, we are looking into how tuning the BMW X5 can take this premium SUV to the next level. We are using this 2014 BMW X5 we have tuned as an example. The customer was looking for an increase in power and torque. Here at Alt Tune, we have the tools to do that.
The Solution
After taking a look at the X5 and reading the factory ECU data, we decided that giving the ECU a power tune using Alientech KESS3 could give the extra power boost the customer was looking for. An ECU (engine control unit) tune is a software upgrade that optimizes the performance of the vehicle’s engine. By reprogramming the ECU, we are able to unlock the full potential of the BMW X5. This can result in improved horsepower, torque, and fuel economy, as well as a more responsive and enjoyable driving experience.
Another thing that can create problems with the BMW X5 is its emissions system. Therefore we made adjustments so the emission system worked better and worked with the tune to improve the driving experience.

Years of Development
We have been tuning the BMW’s 3.0L 6-cylinder turbo diesel engines for years, and understand how they work as well as the limitation on factory hardware.
Emissions solutions
We have solutions for emission systems such as disabling the Exhaust gas recirculation (EGR), Diesel particulate filter (DPF), Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) (Adblue) and associated DTC fault codes.
